Caterina Tognon arte contemporanea
opening September 9th
From 10 am to 7 pm
On the occasion of the 7th. Venice Glass Week, Caterina Tognon arte contemporanea presents in the gallery spaces the publication Self-portraits. Lilla Tabasso and Xavier Salomon: Homage to Rosalba Carriera.
The volume presents a work by the artist Lilla Tabasso (Milan, 1973) inspired by the last, superb self-portrait of the famous painter Rosalba Carriera (Venice, 1673 - 1757), housed at the Gallerie dell'Accademia. The glass work by Lilla Tabasso is composed of different botanical elements such as the laurel - which, in the painting, encircles Carriera's head -, the variety of rose known as Alba - hence, the name Rosalba - and the lilac - Tabasso's favourite flower. It is therefore a tribute to the great Venetian woman and artist, who unfortunately ended her career in total blindness.
Dedicated to flowers, to glass, to the water of the lagoon, but also to beauty that flees, to old age that presses on, and above all to Rosalba's painful blindness, Xavier Salomon's text is the focus of the publication.
To accompany the presentation of the volume, the gallery will exhibit six new works by Lilla Tabasso.
